Happy Holidays
Marathon Me would like to wish everyone a happy holiday, and hope you all get to spend some time away from work and with your families.
The Livaudais family is currently in New Mexico with my in-laws. We’ve spent a couple days outside of Los Alamos at my in-laws cabin. We built some snow forts, tunnels and gone sledding.
Yesterday I went for an easy run. I think we were around 8500 feet and the road from their cabin goes down for a little then heads basically up, and then goes up some more. I slogged throught the first mile slipping and sliding a little on the hard packed snow. I got to the main road and headed up again for another mile, my breathing was pretty ragged. I was running between 8:00 - 9:00 minute miles, for the first mile, then about 10:00 for the second on the monster climb, then I turned around headed back. I love the feeling after cresting a hill and getting to go back down. In this case I just turned around at the top and was flying down at about 6:45 - 7:00. My breathing returned to normal, the wind had died down and it was very peaceful.
That mile just flew by, and I was thinking to myself, that it is runs like this that makes me appreciate how much I really enjoy running. I was in a beautiful part of the country moving along fairly effortlessly and the air felt crisp and clean.
The last mile was also mostly downhill, except for the final .5 mile or so. I felt that I could have run all day but decided to take it easy for the first run at altitude in quite a while.
Today we went sledding some more and then headed up to Taos, New Mexico for some skiing tomorrow.
I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of your holidays.
