Foot is (mostly) okay
Well, the sexy update is that my foot isn’t broken, it’s just hella-sore. XRays were all negative, so I’ve got that going for me, which is nice.
Prior to the morning I hadn’t run since Saturday’s race. It was driving me a little nuts. I did manage to do an easy mile this morning and felt okay about it. I’m trying not to push my foot just yet since I really want to run (versus power hiking) the marathon this weekend.
Tomorrow I plan on starting out for an easy four miler and will hopefully be able to complete it without damaging my foot.
I’ve been thinking back on the last time my foot hurt like this, and it was actually 5 years ago, again after the Sunmart 50k. That year I had my previous 50k record of 4:28, this year I ran 4:18. The other times I’ve run out there slower I’ve had no problems. I’ve even done 50 miles out on that course with no ill effects.
So perhaps my body is just super wimpy and can’t handle running 50k under 4:30. The first time I had two weeks between marathons and wound up running 3:18 in Alabama. This week’s run is on a trail with some serious hills, so I know 3:18 is out the window, and I’ll just be going for finishing this time. Preferably while running vs. walking.
Wish me luck and I’ll see you in Kentucky.

Anyhow, wishing you the best in Kentucky. I think you are too fast for a broken foot anyhow. A break only runs a 7 min pace 5k.
