Rock and Roll San Antonio

alamo_facade.jpg

Well I’m now signed up for Rock and Roll San Antonio in November. I just squeaked in under the wire as the race sold out yesterday.  San Antonio’s marathon historically has averaged around 2500 runners.  But that was before the Rock and Roll came to town.  This years event has sold out with 30,000 runners.  That’s quite a jump in a year.

People are banking on the new course and the “brand” of Rock and Roll.  They know what to expect: good organization, well marked course, lots of bands, and an overall good time.

I’m looking forward to it, but even though it claims to be flat fast course, I don’t think I’ll be running very fast. It will be my 4th marathon in 6 weeks and my 5th in 56 days, so I’m sure I’ll still be a little beat up.

But, since my father-in-law and my brother-in-law are both running, I’ve got to jump on the band wagon.  Plus it will make my third Rock n Roll event in 2008, with one more next summer in Seattle.  That will leave me only short of Nashville from completing the marathon series.

And you should always run marathons every chance you get.

What’s up next for you?

  1. Anything with Rock N Roll in the title has to be good.

I’m doing the Half Marathon in Fresno (Two Cities Eye Q) on November 9. If my foot cooperates!

  2. San Antonio sounds like it would be fun. I’ve got 6 marathons in the next 6 weeks, wrapping up an insane 10 in 10 weeks. I’m doing the Spinx Runfest this weekend. Next weekend is the City of Oaks Marathon. Then it’s Chickamauga and Richmond. Atlanta is on Thanksgiving day, and I’m doing the Derby 50K two days later.

  3. I have run the San Antonio marathon in November 4 times. Expect warm and humid weather. If the sun is out it will feel hot late in the race. Hope for cool dry weather, ha ha. The course is “relatively” flat. My wife and I run marathons every chance we get, about 4 hours typically.
Most recent: Equinox, St. George, Marathon 2 Marathon (TX).
Coming up: Marine Corps, Fort Worth, San Antonio, (maybe Rehoboth Beach), Philadelphia, Fiesta (McAllen, TX), Dallas. That will put us at 22 marathons for the year and 13 different states. Bump it all up by one if we run Rehoboth.

  4. Matt, that’s even crazier than me! The most I have ever done is 7 in 7 weeks, but I had a few weeks off as I bookended it with two doubles.

Steve, I’ll be at Marine Corps this weekend. 22 for the year is great! I think I’ll finish up at about 20. I’d like to do White Rock one year, but this year I think we’re picking up kentucky.

What’s your favorite one this year?

  5. I’m excited for the Seattle marathon, considering we have many good local bands up here.

    Should be a great time.
