Carrolton Michigan Marathon Pre-race

titta.jpg

We landed in Detroit and headed up to Carrolton for the Carrolton Michigan marathon. This is a race that is basically eight 5k loops with and an extra loop thrown in for good measure to get you to 26.2 miles. In order to get to the High School for packet picket up we had to turn down Tittabawassee Road, which since Shelley wasn’t with us, made Scott and I laugh a little.

The town was aware that I was coming and had set up a sign welcoming me to the race.

After picking up our packets we headed to the hotel and checked in. After watching a couple hours of really bad TV (MTV’s Boilingpoints, and some 80s movies) we headed out to dinner. We skipped the “pasta dinner” of random people meeting at the Olive Garden (which, I don’t care how many Italian actors they get, isn’t where real Italian families eat). My Grandma is from Sicily and there is no Olive Garden style cooking in our family.

We went to a Chinese Restaurant called “The Forbidden City”, which was pretty good. I had my usual secret pre-marathon dinner of Egg Drop Soup and Chicken Fried Rice with a lot of Soy Sauce. Soy Sauce is the magic ingredient for marathons, especially when combined with rice. That’s a free one for you.

Once we left they had to refill the Kikkoman:

Satisfied we headed back to the hotel for more crappy TV and a hopefully a good night sleep. The eight 5ks await in the morning.
