Sore Legs

sorelegs.jpg

I’ve had four nights sleep since the Rattlesnake 50k in West Virginia last Saturday.  Today was the first day that I could walk down stairs without some form of wincing.

The race was really fun, but really hilly.  We had 5000 feet of climbing over the course of 31 miles.  The downhill sections were fairly technical and very steep.  I felt great that night and tight on Sunday, but Monday morning was the dreaded two-days post marathon pain.  Normally just running a marathon doesn’t make me all that sore anymore with the exception of a really fast marathon or, apparently, a really hilly one.

My quads were totally destroyed earlier this week.  It hurt to squat down to pick up my shoes off the floor, and then to bend my legs to put them on.  It was kind of ridiculous.

It is actually amazing to me that I can be that sore only a few days ago and now feel mostly normal and by tomorrow morning I should be all put back together again.  Which is good since I have another marathon in less than two weeks.
