Slow but steady

I’ve now finished 4 workouts in the pool (I doubled my mileage last week. hahaha, yes I know that means I swam one mile last week which equaled the rest of the swimming I had done in 2008).All four workouts have been .5 mile in length. My first two were: 22:08 and 19:40. I’d like to get down to 17:00 minutes or so, or actually I’d be really happy with sub 36:00 or 37:00 for a whole mile. I may try to do that this week.

Last week I got in the pool and was able to swim the .5 mile in 18:23 and then the next time I got in I focused more of proper (for me) technique and removed a few more doggie paddles and finished in 17:33. So now I am really close to the goal of 17:00 minutes and I think I can knock that out.

I’ve got three weeks left until Coeur d’Alene and I think I’m going to be okay on the swim now. I do want to get at least one 1-mile swim in before race day and if I can do that I’m all set.

  1. Apparently, the water is insanely cold up there. A few of my teammates are preparing themselves for the cold by swimming in Lake Austin, right by Mansfield dam. You can get there by take the Low Water Crossing Rd down.
