Friday was Back on the Bike Day. Oh bike, why do you hate me so much?

Friday morning before work I planned to ride down 620 to the dam and come back for about 18 miles. I got past 2222 and found that they are in the middle of resurfacing 620 all the way to the dam. I don’t think the road actually was really in need of resurfacing, but perhaps the road crews just like the view of the lake.

After a couple of miles of riding through loose asphalt, gravel and grooved pavement, I bagged the ride and headed back home. It just didn’t feel safe the way my bike was wobbling all over the road and it wasn’t any fun. So I cut it short and finished with 12 miles at 15mph. I still got a couple of good hills in, but overall disappointing ride.

After work I knew I needed some more mileage so I drove over to my sisters house and set out from there to ride on Parmer. My wife and son were at a birthday party that led to a margarita party, so she said it would be no big deal if I grabbed a longer ride. Woo-hoo.

It was tres windy on Parmer and there are some minor hills. On the way out I was struggling into the wind, but it felt good to be on the bike and I knew that after the ride was over, I’d head home grab a shower and then head over to join my wife for some margaritas. Excellent.

I was thinking of trying to get in a 50 mile ride, but about 19 miles into the ride I decided that 38 would be a better distance and besides if I added the 12 from this morning: viola! 50 miles.

So that’s basically what I did, enjoyed screaming down some hills on the way back getting into the mid 30s.

So I finished the day with two workouts (it’s almost like football, but without all the big people chasing me) and covering 50 miles and did in fact go grab some margaritas while sitting around the pool. But fear not, I did not get in the pool and no laps were swum. Maybe next week I’ll jump back in the pool.
