I might have just come up with a new goal…
At last weekend’s Flora London Marathon a number of world records were set, although not for oldest marathoner. The one that caught my eye was:
A number of world records were set at yesterday’s marathon, including the fastest time for those dressed as a film character, Santa, fireman and clown. However, four men attempting to break the world record for fastest marathon dressed as a superhero were not so super. None bettered the record of 3 hours, 4 minutes and five seconds.
I have run under 3:04:05 four times previously, so if I had the right super hero suit, it just might be possible. It’s a record that is just so stupid that I think it would be fun to go after. Now the question is when. I can only imagine the reason this record isn’t lower is because not enough fast people know about it. So if it gets publicized I think it will quickly go sub-3.
The bigger question is, which superhero to be? How much does wearing a costume affect you? I’ve run a 10k dressed as Spiderman, but that suit was very hot and it’s pretty thin. I can’t imagine getting a much better suit. The Green Lantern could be a good choice, Spiderman and Superman seem to obvious. The winner move may be to just swallow my pride and run as Wonder Woman or some other female where the costume could be smaller and thus less hot.
