On the road again …

Well we are now three and a half months through 2008 and five marathons have come and gone for me, including my first sub 3:00. I have picked up two new states (Arizona and Washington) and one new country (France). Here is where I have been:
| 01/13/2008 | Rock and Roll Arizona | 3:01:30 |
| 02/17/2008 | AT&T Austin Marathon | 2:58:15 |
| 03/02/2008 | Napa Valley Marathon | 3:10:06 |
| 03/22/2008 | Olympia Easter Marathon | 3:13:30 |
| 04/06/2008 | Cheverny France Marathon | 3:18:07 |
I haven’t done too much planning as to what’s coming past the next month and a half or so; but currently here is what I believe my schedule to be:
| 04/21/2008 | Boston Marathon | Massachusetts |
| 05/10/2008 | Brookings Marathon | South Dakota |
| 05/11/2008 | TIMTAM Marathon | Iowa |
| 06/01/2008 | Rock and Roll San Diego | California |
| 06/22/2008 | Ironman Coeur d’Alene | Idaho |
If I finish those five, I will pick up two new states (South Dakota and Iowa), pick up California and Massachusetts for the 5th time and Idaho for the second time. Have any suggestions on where I should go in July and August? I’m always looking for some good suggestions.
After June I will still need the following states to complete the 50: Alaska, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Washington DC.
Let me know where you’ll be and maybe we can meet up.

There’s always Ironman Louisville. It’s sold out for this year, but you can do it in 2009.
That could be interesting. Are you doing it?
there are some interesting ones in nevada aside from the obvious las vegas marathon in december.
this one is the most interesting by far:
E.T. Full Moon Midnight Marathon, 1/2, & 10K
August 16-17, 2008. Midnight races! Extraterrestrial Highway; Rachel, NV (2- 2.5 hours from Las Vegas)
Running along the fringe of the mysterious Area 51, this stretch of highway (375) has an overwhelming number of reported UFO sightings. So much so, that in 1996 the federal government officially named highway 375 the “Extraterrestrial Highway”. The ET Highway has become a gathering place for UFO enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. With elevations ranging from roughly 4000-5600 feet, the high desert will enchant you with gorgeous vegetation, surrounding mountains, and stunning vistas. An additional treat is the cooler temperatures. Rachel, NV is generally 15 degrees cooler than the Las Vegas Valley; coupled with a midnight run, temperatures should be in the 60’s in August!
you can go to http://www.calicoracing.com for more information about it and other marathons in the vegas area.
there is also the lake tahoe marathon in late september that i can imagine would be nice to run:

as for utah, i’ve heard good things about the st. george marathon in utah

i’m doing the san francisco half in august and then the nike women’s marathon in october in san francisco again. if you want to potentially win your age group in a big marathon, you should apply to next year’s nike women’s marathon. men are allowed although it is normally 99% women.
the san francisco full and 1st half marathon is fun because you get to run over and back on the golden gate bridge. unfortunately last year it was so foggy in the morning that you couldn’t really see past the wires on the bridge.
Definitely not. I just did my first IM. I’d like to spend some time getting faster on the bike/run before doing another one.
I got into the lottery for St. George a few years back but my brother-in-law didn’t so I skipped it. (That was before I said forget it and just went to anything I got into).
I’d love to go do that race.
Jane,
Which Ironman did you do, and how did it go?
[…] can have.
I did Arizona. It was brutally hot and somewhat windy. I finished, which was my goal. I’d like to actually run the marathon in my next IM. Now, I’m thinking of doing one next year - Western Australia, Barcelona or Louisville.
