We are pleased to confirm that you have been accepted for entry into the
2008 ING New York City Marathon. Our records have been updated to
reflect your acceptance.

Sweet. So it’s time to go back to New York. I ran New York in 2006, the year that Lance Armstrong ran it, in the middle of my 7 marathons in 7 weeks streak. During that stretch I ran:

9/30/2006 New Hampshire Marathon 3:32:18
10/1/2006 Maine Marathon 3:48:47
10/15/2006 Columbus Marathon 3:10:56
10/22/206 Lausanne Marathon 3:42:43
11/5/2006 New York 3:11:25
11/17/2006 Oklahoma Marathon 3:32:24
11/18/2006 Route 66 Marathon 3:50:50

I thought I was going to pick up another Boston Marathon qualifying time, but the last mile seemed to have a monster up hill (when in reality it is only slightly uphill) and I fell apart and came thru a minute and a half late. I never did see Lance, but he soundly beat me.

So this year will be a chance for redemption. Running in New York City is quite an experience. The crowds are amazing, only really rivaled by Boston in my experience. Starting up the Verrazono Narrows Bridge and going out way too fast in the first mile and then paying for it the rest of the race. Running through all the boroughs is fantastic, the smells of food and just the overall revelry.

I tried getting in last year, but missed both the lottery and the qualifying time by a minute or two.

This year I had a very good half-marathon in January and ran a 1:22:03 at 3M in Austin, which got me guaranteed entry this year. So, New York, New York here I come.

I’m hoping my brother-in-law makes it in the lottery, but apparently he won’t find out until mid-June.

Who else is going to be running in New York this year?
