Ironman or bust
So I’m back on the Ironman bandwagon, however I’ve yet to begin training. I think I have somewhere less than 90 days until race time, but I’m not going to check it again as it is slightly depressing to be only now starting my training.
Today was the first attempt at adding the bike back since Jan 5th, where Nancy and Murphy dragged me out for a nice bike ride. Counting today that brings my number of rides since my last Ironman (Nov. ‘04) to a whopping total of 3 rides.
So for those keeping track: 1 ride in January, 0 rides in February and now 1 ride in March. I’ve equaled the total number of rides so far this year in one day. Woo-hoo!
But luckily I also squeezed in a four mile run at 7:42/M prior to the ride after dropping Christopher off at school, so I’m counting it as a reverse brick.
So you may be wondering how did this monster ride, equaling the previous total for the year, go? Well it was pretty rough, the humidity has returned to Austin and this morning we also had massive winds to contend with. I pedaled off into the wild blue yonder only to get hit with a stiff wind right in the face as soon as I left my street. This is not my (nor anyone I’d imagine) ideal cycling weather. I was riding off of 620 road near my house and the wind was blowing so hard I felt that I almost lost my bike a few times. I decided to change the route to get off 620 and then wound up getting in 10 miles total at 16.17 mph.
So not a great beginning, but at least I’ve started now. I’m going to try for at least one more ride this week and a couple more next week, but then travel madness starts back up for me and I will be on the road for the better part of two different weeks, which will hinder my cycling. But hopefully my running will keep carrying me through.
I don’t plan on starting swim training until the end of April. 6-7 weeks should be enough time right?
Till next time…
