New York, New York!

I had to be in the Big Apple for work this week and the weather was amazing. I met up with a co-worker for a 7am run around Central Park. My hotel was about 1.5 miles from the park, so I left about 6:45 and then we went for a nice 6 mile run on the horse trails and then I headed back to the hotel for an overall 9 mile run. I felt pretty good and I think a lot of it was due to great weather. When it isn’t hot or humid I do a lot better.

We ran at a pretty good clip and I could tel my legs were still a little heavy from Saturday’s marathon but overall I felt great. My friend Andrew (who is a much faster marathoner than I) showed me around the horse trails. I had previously only run on the paved sections on the outside edges of the park, and this was a welcome change.

We saw lots of folks who appeared to be training for Boston and even more people with dogs. Central Park is one of the anomalies where you can forget that you are in the middle of a huge city. Running under the canopies of tress on the soft dirt with slight undulating hill is always a treat for me. Now I just need to hope I get back in the New York City Marathon. (Even though I am personally aghast at the fact they charge people $11 even if they don’t get in, just for the chance of getting in. That means they will probably take in between $500,000 - $600,000 from people not even running the race. That’s way more than the budget for most of the marathons that I run.)

Just to show you how the other half lives (not me) here is a picture from office where we had our meetings on Tuesday. Enjoy. (And be jealous).
