Around and Around and Around

So today finished up my third day of running on the cruise ship. It is still quite boring but today was better than the first two days.

Monday we left Los Angeles and headed towards Cabo San Lucas. Since it was a day at sea I planned on hitting the gym and then running a few laps. Apparently I wasn’t the only one with this idea and when Shelley and I got to the gym it was way too crowed. Shelley stuck it out but I headed down a floor to the jogging track. This track is 3.5 laps to the mile and so I decided I would do it in block of 7 laps and see how it went. I didn’t think I’d be able to keep track of any more than 7 laps at a time and since this was a 2 miler interval seemed like the way to go.

Day one finished with 21 laps so I covered 6 miles. Not bad for being on a cruise ship. This ship has the track right up against the rails, which would normally be good but since that is where people want to stand to look “over” the railing its less than optimal for both spectators and runners. But it does add an extra dimension to the running, which I’ll call dodge running.

Tuesday we arrived in Cabo San Lucas and went to a great resort where we consumed many margaritas, so as to not hurt the natives feelings. Great fun was had by all. Upon returning to the ship I decided to go for a run. I was slightly inebriated (okay more than slightly) and so my running was possibly a little wobbly. After 3 miles I called it quits.

Today we woke up in Matazlan but it was too foggy to dock. After a 3 hours delay we finally got off the ship and the went on what was quite possibly the most boring tour I have ever been on. We got on a double-decker bus (allegedly the only one in the whole city), which Christopher really enjoyed. After that it kind of went downhill. We sat through a very boring show and with not very good chips and bean dip, then we went to a terrible shopping area full of crap no one wants, then we went to a cliff diving show. This was the coolest part as two drunks morons thought they could cliff dive and much hilarity ensued until their girlfriend talked some sense into them.

We were never so happy to make it back to the ship. After setting Christopher up with a movie I hit the running track which since everyone was still in port was blessedly empty. I was able to knock out a quick four miles (14 laps for those keeping score) and was able to open it up the last 3-4 laps since there was no one on deck.

Now I am using the miracles of technology tethered to my blackberry in Mexico posting to this blog. Isn’t it amazing.

Happy trails.
